To get an idea of what it's like working for someone else, we designed print pieces based on a narrative written by another member of the class. This involved running several concepts by our "clients", letting them pick which concept we would go with, and designing that concept using their chosen fonts.
The narrative I had to work with was about a Swedish immigrant's challenge to fit into mainstream America during the 1950′s. My "client" picked the non-conventional, tongue-in-cheek concept, a mask in a gift envelope… and I still have no clue how I got the go-ahead from my instructors for this approach.
